What is CHRA?
In April 2000, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) gazetted a new regulation known as the Use and Standards of Exposure of Chemicals Hazardous to Health (USECHH) Regulations 2000. One of the mandatory requirements of the regulation is for a company using hazardous chemicals to conduct a Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA). The CHRA seeks to identify, evaluate and control any health risk associated with work activities involving the use of chemicals.
• Identification of hazards of the chemicals
• Determination of exposure that may arise due to use of the chemicals
• Evaluation of the assessed consequences and individual risk, based on the criteria established by DOSH in CHRA Manual 2nd Edition
• Recommendation of mitigation measures to reduce the risk levels to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP), as neccessary
